Critique for Project 4

Today was the critique for Project 4. I think that it was very helpful and I agreed with the critiques that I received. I think that I needed to not be afraid of white space and of removing parts pictures/objects/texts from the design that I created. I think with a little more time I would have made it better because I was having some second thoughts right before I printed the final product. I didn't like the text description that I had put in the layout and almost removed it. Overall I received helpful critiques that I will definitely apply to upcoming projects.

Catch up

Its obvious that I forgot to post for projects 2 and 3. I have now added a sticky note that says 'BLOG FOR DIGITAL MEDIA' on the wall next to my computer so that I don't forget again. Project 2 was using the automate function to make a gallery of photos. I liked this project because I liked adding filters and distorting the photos. I encountered problems in having the sequence I used to work on all of the photos, so I did a few different ones until I found the one I liked. After doing the project, I think that staring off with somebody elses photo might have helped the overall gallery to look better, but I like how it ended up looking in the end. Project 3 was using shapes to make 2 self portraits in Illustrator. This was definitely my favorite project so far. I like using simple things, such as shapes, to make a bigger, complicated picture. I liked the meticulous work that was involved, and once I started the project I couldn't stop working on it. I liked investigating the different tones in the skin and hair in the 2nd version of the portrait and I liked the simple and meaningful 1st version as well. Overall I really enjoyed the project, and after the critique I learned helpful things to improve my work, like not needing to define my teeth with black lines.

Project 4

This project was about layout and design. I found that I struggled a little bit with learning InDesign because it was my first time using it and it is very different from photoshop and illustrator. I liked using the scanned images and I felt that it added to the overall look of the piece. I went for more of a magazine add for my project and less of a graphic look. I wanted the ad to flow and had inspiration from the ribbon that was tied around the bracelet that I used for my item. I also liked using text in the project. I like the way that I was able to manipulate the text by adjusting the spacing and how you can place the text. Another problem I encountered was getting the images into the program. Everything seemed fine until I tried to overlap things and realized that there was a white background. The process was annoying to remove the backgrounds, but in the end it all worked out.
